Alan Rickman as Professor Snape

After the death of Lemmy Kilmister, I was really hoping that death would take a hiatus in 2016. Unfortunately, as we all know, this has not been the case. Only four days has past since the death of David Bowie, but cancer decided to take another life. Alan Rickman passed away this morning, at the age of 69.

Alan Rickman was a giant of the British stage and the screen. His voice was unique and instantly recognizable. Most are undoubtedly familiar with his role as Professor Severus Snape in the Harry Potter films, and as Hans Gruber in Die Hard. His list of credited roles go on and on, but one thing is for sure, the acting world won’t ever be the same again.

I was listening to the radio this morning when I found out about Rickman. The hosts were having a discussion that is worth noting. In a nutshell, they were talking about how strange it is that we have feelings for someone we don’t know and how their death hits us. The consensus was that although we may not have known the person, their work helped us to get to know ourselves better. I agree with that one hundred percent.

It’s never easy when anyone passes away, but at least with artists, they are leaving behind a wonderful legacy of work that we can continue to enjoy for the rest of our days. For that, I am grateful. Cheers to you Mr. Rickman, thank you for all of your contributions to the entertainment industry, you will be missed.
